The features of the Western legal tradition described in this study allowed to identify the fundamental constitutional ideas (the state, power and values), and to group the key constitutional values into three broad categories: the rule of law, democracy and human rights. One of the central tasks of this study was not only to appreciate the crucial dates of Lithuanian constitutionalism (1387, 1566, 1791, 1918, 1990), but also to identify the common principles of Lithuanian historic constitutional sources of law, which covers the Grand Duchy of Lithuania’s national privileges of 14–16th century, the Lithuanian Statutes of 16 century, the 1791 constitution, interwar constitutions and also so called independence acts: the Independence act of 16 February 1918, the Lithuanian Partisans Declaration of 16 February 1949 and the Independence act of 11 March 1990.
